Saturday Savvy: Homemade Laundry Soap! Money Saving Magic

GOOD MORNING!

Need a weekend project? I have one for you! Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap. I did this a few weeks ago and the liquid soap has worked out nicely. I have heard of some people making their own and their clothes turned out moldy smelling, this recipe is not the case.  You end up spending about 1 cent per load! Magical money saving wonders. I got really sick of spending $17 at costco for a giant thing of Laundry soap that claims to give you 90 loads, but 1/4 of the container is AIR! I also heard some people use another container and fill the one they are buying up to the rim. So you could be buying a half empty container. So I resorted to this homemade stuff, and I'd have to say, it's pretty Awesome. I believe this is the same recipe the Duggar lady uses... the one with 19 kids. So it must be good, right?

So here is what you do! You need the following:

1. Fels Naptha bar, You can buy it HERE, they used to sell it in grocery stores, Target and Walmart, but not anymore. Your best shot is AMAZON. Same goes for the next ingredients
2. Borax and Arm & Hammer Washing Soap Duo HERE
or buy them separately, but I found it is better to buy them together. You'll be able to make loads more after this, you'll just need to buy another Fels Naptha bar.
3. 5 gallon bucket (I got mine from Lowe's for $5)
4. Water
5. Essential Oils, This step is optional. I used Doterra Lavender.

Directions

1. grate your Fels Naptha bar with a cheese grater. Yes, you need the entire bar.

2. Boil the flakes in 4 cups of hot water, until there are no chunks.
3. In your bucket fill it half way with hot water and add 1 Cup of the Arm & Hammer Washing Soap, and 1/2 Cup of Borax. Stir this really well!
4. Add Your essential oils (optional) I did about 25 drops of Lavender.
5. Combine your Fels Naptha Mixture in your Bucket.
6. Fill the rest of the bucket up with warm/hot water.
7. THIS IS WHERE I FAILED, Mix the entire bucket up really really well. I mean really well!!!!!!
8. Let this mixture set for 24 hours until it turns to a thick liquid gel-ish laundry soap. I didn't stir mine up that good so that it is not completely consistent throughout.
