Evan and I hit the road again this weekend to abandon the extreme heat and visited San Diego. It was absolutely delightful beyond words- 75 degrees, sunny with a slight breeze! Doesn't get better than that.
The road to San Diego was hugging the boarder of Mexico, and you could see right over the fence causing us to go through Boarder Patrol Check points to and from San Diego.
Friday we went to the Zoo. We loved the Zoo. This was the first time for us both to go to San Diego Zoo. There were loads of animals I never heard of, but so fun to see. Animals are hilarious. We saw baby pigs chasing each other in circles. A monkey running towards the glass and punching it, thinking people were trying to get its food, and of course a lot of pooping, sleeping, and pacing for food.
The Giraffe on the left was only 2 weeks tall, weighing 145 lbs and was 6 foot 2 inches! What a cutie
This was Evan's FAVORITE Animal. I can't remember the name but he was really cute and kept starring at us. These are endangered, probably why I've never heard of them.
This was my first time seeing a real life panda! Lucky for us it was dinner time so she was chowin' down on the bamboo. What a sweetie.
This was the monkey that ran to the window and punched it thinking people were trying to take his food. He was mad! Kind of funny to watch. The guy in the white shirt had his back turned to the window and didn't know it was coming for him.
It was super fun! We did a solid 7 hours at the park and saw everything. We may have skipped some of the spiders and reptiles.... but I'm not mad about that.
The UUS Midway Museum was next! It's a WWII Ship with fighter planes on it and was the largest of its time.
Then we drove to the San Diego LDS Temple. When we got there it was cloudy and overcast, but quickly cleared up with blue skies. It was amazing. That temple definitely wins for most like a princess castle.
Our next stop was Old Town. If you have ever been to old town you'll know exactly why I love it. Even better we went to the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center which was so much fun! It is by far my favorite visitor's center, it is interactive and just FUN.
They do have a guided tour, but the videos are fun and the story is adventurous. Who knew that the Mormon Battalion did so much for the United States- their journey from Iowa to California paved the way for the Railroad and the road from Tucson to San Diego. 500 Men, Women and children served and no one was killed or died. They learned irrigation and farming techniques in Santa Fe, which they later brought to SLC when the Saints arrived.
After all the videos they had a photo booth for us. We were also able to search for gold, make bricks and wash clothes on a old fashioned wash grate.
We explored Old Town Historic Park. This place was BUSY! They had basket weaving, yarn making, rope making and butter churning.
If you're thinking Oh wow buy one get one free was a great deal? Well it was a total of $6.... The ice cream was pre-scooped and in the freezer, then the lady poured a can of root beer in the cup. Slightly disappointing.
You can go to San Diego without going to the BEACH! We stayed in Mission Beach San Diego.
We met up with my mom, Vern and his family for a little vacation time!
Strolled the boardwalk, pier and watched the surfers catch a wave. Right and we got ice cream from the amusement park... the largest I have ever seen, and we got the smallest size. No I did not eat the entire thing, yes my ice cream fell and hit the ground. For the record it was delicious.
It was an outstanding vacation and so much fun to see my mama!
Back to work and back to the grind!
Thanks for Reading <3
